Media Advisory: Listeriosis Investigation Invites Public To Comment

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 2, 2009) - On January 20, 2009, Prime Minister Stephen Harper appointed Sheila Weatherill to undertake the investigation into the August 2008 listeriosis outbreak. As part of her investigation, Ms. Weatherill is seeking input from those personally affected by the outbreak, and from the Canadian public.

This contribution is invaluable to the investigation, as it will provide Ms. Weatherill with a glimpse into how Canadians perceive Canada's food safety system. These submissions will not only provide insight for the investigation, but will also help to build the basis for Ms. Weatherill's recommendations to the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, by July 20, 2009.

Canadians who were affected directly by the outbreak are invited to submit their comments, recommendations, stories and opinions online at under "I Was Affected." As for all others they are invited to do the same under "I Want to Hear Your Views". There is also information on how to contact the investigation team by mail and by telephone.

Please continue to refer to the website, as updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
