On March 31, Toronto's technology, marketing and social media community will join together for JapanQuakeTO, a fundraiser built in response to the 9 magnitude earthquake and tsunami that devastated north eastern Japan.

"We have a great network of generous and ambitious people who are willing to step up and pull together this amazing event for a great cause," says Justin Kozuch, Lead Researcher for Pixel to Product and one of the JapanQuakeTO organizers. "The online videos and images truly stunned our local community and we're pulling together to contribute funds for the Canadian Red Cross Japan disaster relief efforts."

JapanQuakeTO is being held at Tattoo Rock Parlour in downtown Toronto in support of the Canadian Red Cross. The evening event will include three of Toronto's top rated DJs, dancing, giveaways and raffles for a number of highly valuable prize packs. Socially conscious supporters can also make a donation of any amount on their mobile cell phones through the QR Agency JapanQuakeTO mobile barcode found online and on posters throughout downtown Toronto. This donation goes directly to the Canadian Red Cross via a secure donation page and donors will receive a tax receipt immediately.

"The Canadian Red Cross is extremely grateful to the organizers of JapanQuakeTO and their social media supporters," said Ron Kelusky, director general for the Red Cross in Ontario. "This support will help the Red Cross continue to provide for immediate needs including shelter, clean water and medical support as well as address longer-term needs of the affected communities as we begin to help them rebuild and recover."

As rescue efforts got underway, the JapanQuakeTO organizers gathered to discuss ways in which we could raise money for those displaced by this disaster. Within an hour, the team had an event name, fundraising goal and a date for the event.

Tickets are still available at www.JapanQuakeTO.ca and donations are welcome on the site. Sponsorship opportunities can also be found at www.JapanQuakeTO.ca/sponsor.
