Media Advisory: MADD Canada and NB Liquor Show New Brunswick Students the Impact of Impaired Driving

OAKVILLE, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - March 12, 2014) - What do you do when a friend is drunk or high, and makes an awful decision that puts lives at risk? Thousands of students across New Brunswick are getting the chance to consider that question as they watch MADD Canada's 2013-2014 School Assembly Program.

NB Liquor is sponsoring 50 presentations of the French show, Impact, and English show, Smashed, at schools throughout the province. A long-time supporter of the School Assembly Program, NB Liquor was instrumental in the production and delivery of MADD Canada's first French production in 2011, as well as the current program.

This week, MADD Canada and NB Liquor are highlighting the French program and its delivery in New Brunswick with a special screening for students and staff at École L'Odyssée in Moncton.

Media are welcome to attend the launch and speak with special guests, students and school staff.

Date: Friday, March 14 at 9:45 a.m.
Location: École L'Odyssée - 60 promenade Léopold-F.-Belliveau, Moncton, Nouveau-Brunswick
Guests: Brian Harriman, President and Chief Executive Officer, NB Liquor
Marcelle Saulnier, Communications and Social Responsibility Officer, NB Liquor
Charline Manuel, MADD Kent County
Andrew Murie, MADD Canada Chief Executive Officer

Impact provides an emotional, realistic reminder about just how quickly a night of partying can turn to tragedy when someone makes the wrong decision. Students see a fictional account of friends who ditch a school dance in favour of going to a house party, where one terrible decision causes a lifetime of grief and guilt. The dramatization is followed by the real stories of three victims of impaired driving crashes.

Teens and young adults are at significantly increased risk for impaired driving crashes. MADD Canada's School Assembly Program aims to get young people thinking and talking about the dangers of impaired driving and the need to take precautions to protect themselves and their friends. Thanks to the support of sponsors such as NB Liquor, Impact and Smashed, will be delivered to approximately 1 million students across Canada this school year.
