Media Advisory: MADD Canada and NB Liquor Urge New Brunswick Students to Make Sober Driving a Priority During Prom and Grad Season

QUISPAMSIS, NEW BRUNSWICK--(Marketwired - May 14, 2013) - With prom and grad season nearly here, MADD Canada is teaming up with New Brunswick Liquor (NB Liquor) to deliver a dynamic sober driving message to get students thinking about how they will protect themselves from impaired driving, both during their end-of-school celebrations and all year long.

Long Weekend, MADD Canada's 2012-2013 School Assembly Program, shows the story of four young friends who head off for a weekend at the cottage. As they pack into the car and hit the road, no one foresees how their actions will lead to devastation. The program offers students a first-hand look at how bad decisions around drinking, drugs and driving can take a weekend from fun to tragic in mere seconds.

This week, MADD Canada and provincial partner NB Liquor will host a special screening of the show for students at Kennebecasis Valley High School to highlight the program and to draw special attention to the sober driving message in the weeks before proms and graduation parties.

Media are welcome to attend the launch and speak with special guests, students and school staff.

Date & Time: May 16, 1:10 p.m.
Location: Kennebecasis Valley High School, 398 Hampton Road, Quispamsis, New Brunswick, E2E 5X5
Special Guests: Denise Dubyk, National President, MADD Canada
Marcelle Saulnier, Communications and Social Responsibility Officer, NB Liquor

Teens and young adults are at significantly increased risk for impaired driving crashes. Using dramatizations and testimonials from real-life victims of impaired driving, MADD Canada's School Assembly Program packs a hard punch designed to get students' attention and drive home the message that it is never okay to mix alcohol and/or drugs with driving. This school year, across Canada more than one million students will see Long Weekend, and the French program titled Dommages. In New Brunswick, thanks to the generous support of NB Liquor, 50 shows are being presented to students in grades 7-12 across the province this school year.
