MEDIA ADVISORY: MADD Canada and Westcan Urge Students to Make Sober Driving a Priority This Prom and Grad Season

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - May 24, 2013) - With prom and grad season nearly here, MADD Canada is teaming up with the RTL-Westcan Group of Companies to deliver a dynamic presentation that will get students thinking about the importance of sober driving, both during their end-of-school celebrations and all year long.

Long Weekend, MADD Canada's 2012-2013 School Assembly Program, shows the story of four young friends who head off for a weekend at the cottage. As they pack into the car and hit the road, no one can predict how their actions will have devastating consequences.

On Monday, MADD Canada and sponsor RTL-Westcan are hosting a special screening of the show for students at Jack James High School in Calgary to promote the sober driving message. Media are welcome to attend the presentation and speak with special guests, students and school staff.

Date & Time: May 27 at 2:00 p.m.
Location: Jack James High School, 5105 - 8 Avenue S.E., Calgary AB T2A 4M1
Special Guests: Jim Davis, Managing Director, RTL-Westcan Group of Companies
Wayne Kauffeldt, MADD Canada Past Chair
Photo Opportunities: Guest speakers; presentation of a special plaque made by Jack James' students to show their appreciation for Westcan's sponsorship of the School Assembly Program

Teens and young adults are at significantly increased risk for impaired driving crashes. Using dramatizations and testimonials from real-life victims of impaired driving, MADD Canada's School Assembly Program packs a hard punch designed to get students' attention and drive home the message that it is never okay to mix alcohol and/or drugs with driving. This school year, across Canada more than one million students will see Long Weekend, and the French program titled Dommages. The RTL-Westcan Group of Companies has sponsored 47 presentations in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and the Northwest Territories.
