Media Advisory: Manitoba Metis Federation Holding Annual Louis Riel Commemoration Ceremony

WINNIPEG, MANITOBA--(Marketwired - Nov. 15, 2013) - The Manitoba Metis Federation will be holding its annual commemoration ceremony for Louis Riel being held November 16, 2013.

Louis Riel is celebrated was the leader of the Metis Nation, a father of Confederation, and a founder of Manitoba. Louis Riel was executed in Regina on November 16, 1885. He was buried in the picturesque St. Boniface Roman Catholic Cathedral Cemetery located at 190 ave de la Cathédrale.

Local dignitaries joining MMf President David Chartrand will be: Premier of Manitoba, Greg Selinger: Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Language, Shelly Glover, City of Winnipeg Mayor, Sam Katz; Member of Parliament, Pat Martin and Winnipeg Police Chief, Devon Clunis; among others.

Opening Prayer delivered by Metis Elder, Mr. Norman Fleury

A luncheon will be held immediately following the ceremonies with entertainment and food at Elsie Bear's Kitchen with stew & bannock being served, located at 150 Henry Avenue, Winnipeg.
