Media Advisory: March Down to Rideau Hall for the Annual Inspection of the Guard

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 17, 2008) - Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaelle Jean, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, invites you to join her for the annual Inspection of the Ceremonial Guard, on Wednesday, June 18, 2008, at 10:00 a.m., on the grounds of Rideau Hall.

As well as being Commander-in-Chief of Canada, Her Excellency is Colonel of the three regiments that form the Ceremonial Guard, the Governor General's Foot Guards from Ottawa, the Canadian Grenadier Guards from Montreal and the Governor General's Horse Guards of Toronto. Following the inspection, the Governor General will address the members.

The Ceremonial Guard is a crowd favourite among Rideau Hall visitors. Their scarlet tunics and busbies are a sure sign of summer at the Governor General's Residence. This summer, don't miss the following special activities:

Inspection of the Ceremonial Guard: Wednesday, June 18, 2008, at 10:00 a.m.

Note: In the event of rain, the inspection will be cancelled, in which case the decision to cancel will be made at 9 a.m. on June 18, 2008.

The Governor General's Summer Concert Series

The series includes free outdoor concerts on the grounds of Rideau Hall featuring an array of gifted performers. The Governor General's Summer Concert Series kicks off with the famous Band of the Ceremonial Guard.

In collaboration with the 2008 Ottawa International Chamber Music Festival, the Office of the Secretary to the Governor General is pleased to present:

Information:

Concerts on the grounds of Rideau Hall - free and open to the public

All tours and Rideau Hall activities are free of charge.

The grounds of Rideau Hall are open from April 1 to October 15, daily, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and from October 16 to March 31, daily, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Relief of the Sentries, June 28 to August 24, 2008: Daily, performed every hour on the hour, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Rideau Hall is located at 1 Sussex Drive in Ottawa.
