Media Advisory: Media Availability With Joint Task Force Afghanistan

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - July 6, 2011) - Brigadier-General Dean Milner, Commander, Joint Task Force Afghanistan, will host a video teleconference, on Thursday, July 7th, 2011, to provide an update on the final days of Canada's combat mission in Afghanistan. The video teleconference will highlight the progress achieved for security, governance, reconstruction and development and is being held on the day that authority for the Canadian area of operations is transferred to the 1st of the 25th Stryker Brigade Combat Team.

What: Brig.-Gen. Milner's comments will address the following topics:
  • Partnering and the relationship with the Afghan National Army throughout the Task Force Kandahar area of operations.
  • Security, the fighting season, the gains made through partnered winter operations, and an expanded Afghan National Security Force footprint.
  • Momentum in governance, growing village participation in district shuras, and greater representation of local governance.
  • Development, including the progress made constructing roads, rehabilitating schools and enhancing village infrastructure.

Once he has completed his statement, Brig-Gen. Milner will take questions on these topics.
