Media Advisory: Media Invited to the Ceremony Marking the 70th Anniversary of Battle of Britain

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 17, 2010) - To honour military heroes, Canada's Air Force invites media to attend the ceremony marking the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain. More than one hundred Canadians flew in this Battle between July and October 1940, and 23 Canadians lost their lives. The Battle was the first major campaign fought entirely by air forces.

DATE/TIME: Sunday, September 19, 2010 from 10:15 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Note to Editors:

Weather permitting the ceremony will feature fly-pasts by vintage Second World War aircraft (Spitfires, Hurricanes, Avro Lancaster) and several Canadian Forces aircraft. Veterans, Canadian Forces members and cadets will also be present.

Should weather conditions be uncertain the day of the ceremony, media can call 613-945-7701 for an update on the location (indoors/outdoors).

Media should confirm attendance by 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 18, 2010. Some parking is reserved for media – follow the employee parking signs. Media with satellite trucks are requested to arrive at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum by 9:30 a.m., with all other media arriving by 10:00 a.m.
