Media Advisory: Media Opportunities During Operation Nanook 2012

YELLOWKNIFE, NORTHWEST TERRITORIES--(Marketwire - Aug. 3, 2012) - Media are invited to attend Operation Nanook 2012, in the vicinity of Inuvik, Northwest Territories, from August 13 to 26, 2012.

This opportunity will give media a first-hand look at members of the Canadian Forces (CF) carrying out their operational tasks. In order to facilitate media coverage of this operation, programs will be specifically built in accordance with the media's objectives, availability, and activities being conducted during that specific time.

Operation Nanook 2012 will take place from August 1 to 26, 2012 and is Canada's premier annual northern sovereignty operation. Operation Nanook 2012 will demonstrate CF capabilities through the projection of air, land, and sea forces in support of Canada's Northern Strategy, a Whole of Government initiative.

Joint Task Force (North) (JTF-N) will conduct a scenario in the vicinity of Inuvik and Tsiigehtchic, N.W.T., which will focus on a threat-based event employing the CF working with other government department partners to respond to a specific threat and hazard.

Media Representatives are responsible to make their own arrangements and to cover all costs associated with travelling to and from Inuvik. While in Inuvik, media will be embedded with CF personnel.
