Media Advisory: Meet Laurent Beaudoin and Discuss the Importance of Equipping the Next Generation in Science and Technology

VALCOURT, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - May 16, 2012) - The J. Armand Bombardier Foundation invites the media to a "5 à 7" at the J. Armand Bombardier Museum on May 24, 2012, to introduce the organization FIRST Robotics Quebec. The event will take place under the honorary presidency of Laurent Beaudoin, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bombardier Inc. and co-founder, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of FIRST Robotics Quebec.

Members of the Sherbrooke business community and school administrators have been invited to this "5 à 7" to discover how they can make a difference in encouraging school perseverance and help equip the next generation in science and technology.

Students from De la Montée, Du Triolet and Séminaire de Sherbrooke high schools will be on hand to share the positive impacts of their participation in the FIRST Robotic Quebec program and demonstrate the capabilities of robots they built as part of the Rebound Rumble competition.

The media is invited to interview the various stakeholders beginning at 3:30 p.m. and to attend a demonstration of robots in action at 4:15 p.m. The following speakers at the "5 à 7" will be available for interviews prior to the event:

  • Laurent Beaudoin, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bombardier Inc., co-founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of FIRST Robotics Quebec, and Honorary President of the event, to encourage invited guests to support participating schools and to explain the reasons behind his co-founding of FIRST Robotics Quebec.
  • Gabriel Bran Lopez, Founding Executive Director of Fusion Jeunesse and co-founder of FIRST Robotics Quebec, to introduce the organization he co-founded;
  • Xavier Guillot, Regional Director of FIRST Robotics Quebec, to present the benefits resulting from the participation of schools in the program;
  • Lyne Lavoie, Executive Director, J. Armand Bombardier Foundation, as a major donor to FIRST Robotics Quebec;
  • Mentors of the Sherbrooke teams to explain their involvement;

Following the speeches, which should last about 20 minutes, students and teachers will resume the demonstrations for invited guests.

This networking opportunity will be followed by exciting robot demonstrations open to the public exclusively at the J. Armand Bombardier Museum from May 25 to 27, 2012. For details: museebombardier.com/robots (in French only).
