Media Advisory: Military Parachute Drop Near Mistango Lake For Exercise TRILLIUM RESPONSE 2012

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Feb. 13, 2012) - Media are invited to view the parachuting of Canadian Forces (CF) equipment and personnel at the start of Exercise TRILLIUM RESPONSE 2012.

When: Monday, February 20, 2012, at 11 a.m. See special instructions below.

Where: 25 kilometers East of Cochrane, Near Mistango Lake, Ontario

What: Parachute dropping of CF equipment and personnel from a Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) CC-130 Hercules transport aircraft to commence Exercise TRILLIUM RESPONSE 2012.

Special Instructions: Interested media are asked to meet at Exercise TRILLIUM RESPONSE 2012 Command Post located in the Apitisawin Employment and Training Building (St Joseph School), 207 6th St, Cochrane, ON, no later than 9:45 a.m. Monday, February 20 in order to be escorted to the parachute drop zone.

The purpose of Exercise TRILLIUM RESPONSE 2012 is to increase Canadian Forces operational readiness by practicing domestic operations in support of a simulated large scale commercial aircraft crash in a remote area during the winter months. The exercise will revolve around reported aircraft crashes outside of Cochrane in the Mistango Lake area, and northwest of Hearst near Constance Lake. No actual aircraft will be crashed as part of the exercise.
