MEDIA ADVISORY: Milk-Bone & PetSmart Donate $10,000 Companion Service Dog to Ocean Shores Resident

TUKWILA, WA--(Marketwire - October 15, 2007) -

An Ocean Shores resident will receive a Canine Assistants service dog through a partnership with Milk-Bone and PetSmart. Robert Boyd, who was diagnosed with Parkinson's at age 58 and uses a wheelchair, will be partnered with a canine companion that will be trained to retrieve dropped objects, turn lights on and off and open doors. Robert hopes the dog will give him the help and independence he needs. Dogs chosen for the program are intensively trained at the Canine Assistants facility in Atlanta for a minimum of 14-18 months at a cost of $10,000 per dog.

As part of the Milk-Bone Canine Heroes Program™, Milk-Bone® and PetSmart are sponsoring the Canine Assistants service dog for Boyd. He and his new best friend will go home together after they have both attended an upcoming sponsored training camp together.

Since 1997, Milk-Bone has helped to sponsor more than 500 police and service dogs across the country. Milk-Bone has partnered with PetSmart since 2001 to donate a total of 19 dogs to PetSmart community recipients such as Robert Boyd.

Photo opportunities of Robert with a service dog, as well as demonstrations of the service dog's abilities will be available.
