Media Advisory: Minister Blackburn and Commissioner Mark Cohon Will Present the Jake Gaudaur Veterans' Trophy

EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Nov. 23, 2010) - The Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Minister of State (Agriculture), will be joined by Canadian Football League (CFL) Commissioner, Mark Cohon at the Kipnes Centre for Veterans for the inaugural presentation of the Jake Gaudaur Veterans' Award.

This new component in the collaboration between Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) and the Canadian Football League (CFL) is a new commemorative award entitled the Jake Gaudaur Veterans' Award. Named after the longest-serving CFL commissioner and Second World War Veteran, Jake Gaudaur, this players' award is considered to be a highly prestigious addition to the CFL national awards roster of 12 other national awards, and was added in August 2010 to honour Canada's Veterans. This award will create a legacy of remembrance in the Canadian football industry by highlighting the attributes of Veterans and honouring their sacrifices and achievements.

The trophy will be presented to a CFL player who has, throughout the season, demonstrated the attributes we generally associate with Canadian Veterans: strength, perseverance, comradeship, courage and contribution to community.

Location: CapitalCare Kipnes Centre for Veterans
  4470 McCrae Avenue
(Castle Downs Rd. & 152 Ave.)
  Edmonton, Alberta
Date: Wednesday, November 24, 2010
Time: 2:00 p.m.

Media are invited to speak with Minister Blackburn, Commissioner Cohon, the recipient of the Jake Gaudaur Trophy and members of the Veteran Community. Members of the CFL alumni will also be present for interviews.
