Media Advisory: Minister of Veterans Affairs' Events in New Brunswick

BATHURST, NEW BRUNSWICK--(Marketwire - April 6, 2009) - The Honourable Greg Thompson, Minister of Veterans Affairs, will participate in three events in Miramichi and Bathurst, New Brunswick, on April 7 and 8, 2009.

During the morning of April 7, Minister Thompson will present the first Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation for 2009 to five citizens of New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. The Commendation is presented to individuals who have contributed to the care and well-being of Veterans and to the remembrance of their contributions, sacrifices and achievements. The recipients of this year's Commendation are:

Susan Harrison, Sisson Ridge, NB
Thomas Joordens, Fredericton, NB
Eldon McCallum, Woodstock, NB
Garnett Turner, Kensington, PEI


During the afternoon of April 7, Minister Thompson will host a meet and greet with local Veterans at The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #18 in Bathurst.

On April 8, Minister Thompson will officially open the newly renovated Robert L. Knowles Veterans' Unit at the Villa Chaleur Nursing Home. A three-room extension to the facility will allow its 13 Veteran residents to receive leading edge, client-focused care in comfort and privacy.
