Media Advisory: Minister of Veterans Affairs to Attend Memorial Ceremonies and Celebrate Canada Day in Newfoundland

ST. JOHN'S, NEWFOUNDLAND and LABRADOR--(CCNMatthews - June 29, 2005) - As part of Year of the Veteran activities, the Honourable Albina Guarnieri, Minister of Veterans Affairs, will honour Veterans and celebrate Canada Day in Newfoundland and Labrador with a series of special events and ceremonies. July 1 is also a day of remembrance in the province, with this year marking the 89th anniversary of the First World War battle at Beaumont-Hamel.

The Minister will attend various events in St. John's on July 1, including:



6:00 a.m. Canada Day Sunrise Ceremony, Signal Hill

11:00 a.m. Beaumont-Hamel Remembrance Ceremony, Newfoundland
National Memorial

1:00 p.m. Canada Day Celebrations, Confederation Hill


Veterans and Canadian Forces members and other provincial and federal officials are also planning to be in attendance.
