Media Advisory: More TTC Service to Caribana Parade, Toronto Islands

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 2, 2006) - The TTC is making travel faster and a lot more frequent on routes heading to this long weekend's Caribana Parade and festivities on the Toronto Islands. Here are the service details for the better way to summer music and fun:

TTC SERVICE ON SATURDAY, AUGUST 5

- Buses and streetcars leading into, and near, Exhibition Place and the Caribana Parade route on Lake Shore Boulevard West will be running every one-to-two minutes. Those routes include:



29 DUFFERIN BUSES (from Dufferin Station).

509 HARBOURFRONT STREETCARS (from Union Station).

511 BATHURST STREETCARS (from Bathurst Station).
Additional buses will also run between streetcar service
on the Bathurst route.


- In addition, express bus service to the parade will run every two-to-four minutes from:



KEELE STATION to Parkside Drive/Lake Shore Boulevard).

DUNDAS WEST STATION to Queen Street/Roncesvalles Avenue).

LANSDOWNE STATION, via Jameson Avenue, to Springhurst
Avenue/Dunn Avenue).


TTC SERVICE ON SUNDAY, AUGUST 6 & MONDAY, AUGUST 7 (SIMCOE DAY)

- 509 HARBOURFRONT and 510 SPADINA streetcars passing the ferry docks will be running every two-to-three minutes from Union Station on the Queens Quay portion of both routes to serve people travelling back and forth from events on the Toronto Islands. In addition, an express bus service will be running every five-to-eight minutes on the 6 BAY route, from Bay and Union subway stations to Queens Quay.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS!!

- Monday, August 7 is Simcoe Day (civic holiday) and the TTC will be on a summer holiday schedule on most of its routes. That means most services, including the subway, will start at about 6 a.m.

DANCE YOUR WAY TO CARIBANA WITH A DAY PASS! Don't forget to take advantage of the TTC Day Pass, which is good on Saturday or Sunday or the Simcoe Day holiday! For just $8.50, a group of up to six people (maximum two adults over the age of 19) can enjoy unlimited travel all day.

Free commuter parking on weekends and holidays is available at 16 subway stations right across the system. Park your car and ride the subway - train service on weekends runs about every five minutes.
