Media Advisory: National Defence-Flights Resume for Soldiers Returning from Afghanistan

CFB TRENTON, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 4, 2005) - Soldiers returning from Rotation 3 in Afghanistan will arrive in Trenton at 3:30 a.m. on 5 August. The flight that was originally scheduled to arrive at 8:30 p.m. yesterday was delayed due to runway repairs. All involved are doing their best to facilitate the return of Operation Athena soldiers to their families and to get flight schedules back to what was originally scheduled.

Greeting soldiers as they arrive at CFB Trenton is Colonel Lawrence Aitken, the Base Commander for Canadian Forces Base Kingston. Upon arrival, soldiers will clear Canada Customs with Petawawa-based soldiers departing immediately for CFB Petawawa where they will reunite with their families

Soldiers who reside in locations across Ontario will remain in Trenton to complete necessary post-deployment administration and medical examinations before returning to their units the following day.

Returning are Canadian Forces personnel who participated in Operation ATHENA - Canada's participation in the International Security Assistance Force. This marks the completion of the fourth set of six-month tours (or two years) that Canada has participated in Operation Athena under the auspices of Task Force Kabul. The members of this Rotation, called 'Rotation 3' will return to Canada over a one-month period and will be replaced by 'Rotation 4' soldiers, flight by flight.

Note to Editors: Media can gain access to the passenger terminal by entering the East commercial gates near Pizza Hut off Highway 2.
