Media Advisory-National Defence: Journalist Familiarization With The Military

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 3, 2005) - Journalists are invited to a four-day familiarization course run by the military in Meaford, Ontario, 19 to 22 September.

This course is intended for journalists who expect to report on the military overseas or in Canada at some point in their career. Journalists should consider taking this course to become self sufficient in working with the Canadian Forces in conflict areas. The Journalist Familiarization Course will cover; how to negotiate check-points, mine awareness training, combat first-aid, military weapons, military skills, and how to follow troops in a convoy and on a patrol.

Journalists will have the advantage of an increased awareness of the way the Canadian Army operates and how to achieve their goals within this organization.

Media should register soon so they can be sent a list of equipment they need for the course. Cut off for registration is 11 September.
