Media Advisory: National Policy Leaders to Make Recommendations on "The Next Agenda for High-Risk Minority Youth" to New Policy Makers

Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack to Give Keynote Remarks

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - September 27, 2010) -  Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack will deliver the keynote remarks at the Jobs for America's Graduates fourth annual Thought Leader Event titled, "Setting the Next Agenda for At-Risk Minority Youth."

The September 2010 National Thought Leader Event is focused on developing specific recommendations for the nation's new leaders; by January 2011, there will be new governors in at least half of all the states. Participants are aiming to inform the nation's new governors, Congress, the White House, and leadership within the public and private foundations about the best ways in which to improve education and employment.

Secretary Vilsack will discuss how to expand upon programs that are proven to work that close the academic and economic achievement gap for at-risk minority youth, especially in rural America.

Maine Governor John Baldacci, Chair of the JAG Board of Directors, will host the event along with the following co-hosts: the National Urban League; the National Council of La Raza; the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute; and the Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies.

In addition to Governor Baldacci and Secretary Vilsack, the following people from the public and private sectors are expected to attend: Rep. Ruben Hinojosa, D-Texas; Rep. Donald Payne, D-N.J.; Gene Wilhoit, Executive Director, Council of Chief State School Officers; Tom Tauke, Executive Vice President for Public Affairs, Policy, and Communications, Verizon Communications; Mike D'Ambrose, Senior Vice President, Human Resources, Archer Daniels Midland Company; Carol Wilner, Vice President, Federal and National Third Party Public Affairs, AT&T Services; and Stacey Stewart, Executive Vice President of Community Impact Leadership and Learning, United Way Worldwide.
