Community Hospital Gown Action to End Police Violence in Toronto


TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - April 17, 2012) -

What: A coalition of community groups who have been affected by police violence will gather at Toronto Police Headquarters wearing hospital gowns and remember all those who have been killed by police violence in the past twenty years.

When: Thursday, April 19th, 2012 at 12.30 PM
Where: Outside Toronto Police Headquarters
40 College St.
Why: On February 3, 2012, a 29-year-old Black man named Michael Eligon was shot and killed when he was encountered by the Toronto Police. Mr. Eligon was undergoing a psychiatric assessment at Toronto East General Hospital when he left the hospital in stocking wearing a blue hospital gown.
Members of Never Again, along with other concerned community members, will address the regular monthly meeting of the Toronto Police Services Board meeting (beginning at 1.30 PM). They will be calling for systemic reforms in Toronto policing.
