Media Advisory: New Partnership for Life Formed Between Canadian Forces and Blood Services in Canada

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 25, 2006) - The Canadian Forces, together with the Dominion Command of the Royal Canadian Legion, will become Partners for Life (PFL) with the Canadian Blood Services and Hema-Quebec during the launch of the annual "Roll Up Your Sleeves" blood drive at National Defence Headquarters, Thursday, October 26 at 12 noon.

The new partnership recognizes the long-term relationship between the Canadian Forces and Blood Services in Canada that dates back to World War II.

Media are invited to attend the launch ceremony that will take place in the main concourse, National Defence Headquarters, 101 Colonel By Drive, Ottawa.

Special guests will include BGen Hilary Jaeger, Canadian Forces Surgeon General, BGen Walter Semianiw, Assistant Chief of Military Personnel , representing the Canadian Forces, Dr Graham Sher, Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Blood Services, and Jack Frost, President of the Dominion Command of the Royal Canadian Legion. Corporal Michael Spence, a soldier recovering from injuries received in Afghanistan and a regular blood donor will be a special guest.

Media are asked to arrive at Conference Room D. by 11:45 am. Please note that DND Road remains closed. Media should walk through the Commissionaire's Post on the Nicholas Street side of DND road and enter the building via the conference room door.
