TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - June 2, 2014) - Newspapers Canada will release its 2013/2014 National Freedom of Information Audit and related materials on June 4, 2014.
The annual Freedom of Information (FOI) Audit provides a unique opportunity to compare the performance of institutions from across the country. A team of auditors in each province requested the same information across all three levels of government, and have tabulated the scores of the various departments. The audit provides an accountability report card, revealing which government departments are lagging when it comes to being genuinely open and accountable to Canadians.
Again this year, the FOI audit was done in collaboration with Fred Vallance-Jones, associate professor of journalism at the University of King's College, and his team.
The 2013/2014 study will be made available on the Newspapers Canada website and distributed to members via a special bulletin. Visit www.newspaperscanada.ca/FOI for further details and to view FOI Audits from previous years.
