Groesbeek, Netherlands

Date: July 23, 2009

Start time: 12:00 (noon) a.m.

The parade will be addressed by:
- The CF contingent padres

On the third day of the Nijmegen Marches, all the participating military contingents halt at the Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery for memorial ceremonies. Many Canadian Forces members consider their visit to Groesbeek the most important part of the strenuous four-day march, as it represents the extraordinary affection Canadians have received from the international community and the Dutch people in particular since the end of the Second World War.

Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery is the largest gathering of Canadian war dead in the Netherlands. As well as 2,338 Canadian graves, the cemetery contains the Groesbeek Memorial, which commemorates 1,103 members of the forces of the British Commonwealth who died during the campaign in North-West Europe and who have no known grave.
