MEDIA ADVISORY: OCAT-Campaign For Justice On Tobacco Fraud-Health Agencies to Challenge Ontario Government to Sue Tobacco Industry

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Dec. 8, 2006) - Ontario's most influential health agencies will present their case in favour of suing the tobacco industry at a December 11 news conference.

Recent reports have intimated that the potential for an Ontario government lawsuit against the tobacco industry has stalled. The lawsuit is to recover health care costs incurred from use of the industry's products and related fraud and deception. The agencies will encourage the government to join five other provinces and British Columbia in holding the industry accountable for misconduct that has cost thousands of deaths and billions in Ontario health care costs.
