Media Advisory: Ontario CAs Hold Chartered for Finance Conference

University students to learn CA designation opens doors on Bay Street

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Jan. 10, 2013) - On January 11, 300 lucky university students will gather in Toronto to learn what's been a not-so-well-kept secret - the CA designation can be a key to entering the world of finance. Whether it's investment banking, corporate finance, consulting, private equity and venture capital, or asset and wealth management, Chartered Accountants are major players in these areas.

"We've invited a range of CAs in finance to talk about their experiences, career paths and how their CA training prepared them for the world of finance," said Mona Ghiami, CPA, CA, Director, Career Information with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario. "Naturally, when people think of CAs, they tend to think of accounting firms first - and CAs do dominate in Canada's accounting profession - but CAs also hold major positions in banking, consulting and other financial organizations."

The exclusive conference at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel will give selected delegates the full scoop on how CAs are involved in all aspects of finance and how that trend is sure to increase in the future as economic times and increasing complexity makes having a top-level background in accounting even more crucial to achieving success, both personal and organizational.

The keynote speaker is Eric Sprott, FCA who is the Chairman of Sprott Inc. He'll talk about how the CA designation has given him a career advantage in the investment industry. In 1981, he founded Sprott Securities (now called Cormark Securities Inc.), which today is one of Canada's largest independently owned securities firms. In 2001, Eric established Sprott Asset Management Inc. He has received numerous awards and citations for his business achievements, including Advisor.ca's Top Financial Visionary (2011) and Terrapinn's Most Influential Hedge Fund Manager (2012), and has also been recognized for his considerable philanthropic endeavours.

Professional and student media are invited to attend the event.
