Media Advisory: Ontario CAs Launch Initial Chartered for Finance Conference

University Students to Learn CA Designation Opens Doors on Bay Street

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Jan. 12, 2011) - On January 14, 120 lucky university students will gather in Toronto to learn what's been a not-so-well-kept secret – the CA designation can be a key to entering the world of finance. Whether it's investment banking, corporate finances, private equity and venture capital, or asset and wealth management, Chartered Accountants are major players in many of the most senior roles.

"We've invited a range of CAs to talk about their experiences, career paths and how their CA training prepared them for the world of finance," said Cordie Jagt, CA, Associate Director, Career Information with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario. "Naturally, when people think of CAs, they tend to think of accounting firms first – and CAs do dominate in Canada's accounting profession – but CAs also hold major positions in banking, consulting and other financial organizations."

The exclusive conference at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel will give participating students the full scoop on how CAs are involved in all aspects of finance and how that trend is sure to increase in the future as economic times and increasing complexity makes having a top-level background in accounting even more crucial to achieving success, both personal and organizational.

The keynote speaker is Loren Francis, CA, MBA, CIM, who is Portfolio Manager & VP Private Client Group with Barometer Capital Management Inc. She'll talk about how the CA designation gives her a career advantage in the world of finance, while helping her better serve her clients.

Professional and student media are invited to attend the event.
