Media advisory-Ontario deserves better: CUPE Ontario president to join thousands at mass rally

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - April 20, 2012) - The people of Ontario reject the government's austerity budget, Fred Hahn, President of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Ontario will say in a speech to thousands attending a mass rally at Queen's Park tomorrow.

"The people of Ontario don't want these cuts. They value education, health care and child care. They know that public services provide good value and a higher quality of care," says Hahn. "They also know that putting more than 100,000 people out of work isn't going to help unemployment, and that the only people these cuts will help are bankers and CEOs."

Several recent polls indicate that the majority of Ontarians oppose the Liberal's austerity budget and value quality public services.

Hahn and members of the union's provincial executive board will be joined by thousands of people, including busloads of CUPE members arriving from communities across the province, to join the mass rally.
