Media Advisory: Ontario Health Coalition Wants Your Vote

Voting Stations Across Ontario in Volunteer-Led Referendum This Saturday to Save Our Local Public Hospitals and Stop the Private Clinics

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - April 4, 2014) -

Attn: Assignment Editor -

When: Saturday April 5, 2014

What: Ontario's government has announced plans to bring in new legal regulations to cut services from our community hospitals and contract them out to private clinics. These proposals come on the heels of years of cuts to local hospital services. Ontario has cut our local hospitals' beds and services more deeply than any other province in Canada and now funds hospitals less than any other province. The Coalition is warning that the Ontario government is dismantling our community hospitals.

The Ontario Health Coalition has organized a volunteer-led referendum advocating for the public to have their say on the health care system. Volunteers with the coalition have already been distributing leaflets door-to-door and in workplace votes across the province for the last three weeks. All citizens of Ontario are encouraged to cast their vote this Saturday April 5 in support of our local public hospitals.

The results of the vote will be released at a press conference on Monday April 7, 12:15 p.m. at the Queen's Park Media Studio, and in local media events across the province.

Ballot Question

Choose one: I support our local public hospitals. I do not want the government to cut our services or contract them out to private clinics, OR; I support cutting services from our local public hospitals and contracting them out to private clinics.

Where: Ontarians are invited to vote at dozens of voting stations across the province. The following are pre-arranged voting stations in local businesses. In addition there will be roaming crews of volunteers available to collect votes in busy areas of each city.
