Media Advisory: Ontario Ombudsman to Release Third Annual Report on Investigations of Closed Municipal Meetings-January 27

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Jan. 16, 2015) - Ontario Ombudsman André Marin will release his third annual report on enforcing the province's open-meeting law in municipalities across the province on Tuesday, January 27 - at a news conference at 11 a.m. in the Queen's Park Media Studio.

The Ombudsman will discuss transparency at the municipal level and highlight recent cases handled by his office's Open Meeting Law Enforcement Team (OMLET), which has investigated complaints about closed municipal meetings since 2008.

Prior to the news conference, there will be a technical briefing for journalists from 10 to 10:45 a.m. in Committee Room 1, where copies of the Ombudsman's report will be available (under embargo until the news conference). Senior staff of the Ombudsman's office will be available to answer questions on background.

Any journalists attending the press conference in person who are not members of the Queen's Park Press Gallery are asked to report to Room 387A of the Legislative Building for passes, or to call Gerald Christopher at 416-325-7922.

Journalists from outside of Toronto are also invited to participate in the news conference by teleconference.
