Media Advisory: Ontario Students Aim to Save the World

Students from across the province competing in CA challenge contest April 22

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - April 22, 2009) - Ontario high school students with big ideas are aiming to help mankind - and score some cash - in the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario's Save the World contest. Five two-person teams will compete in Toronto on April 22 in a contest to decide which team has come up with the most exciting and innovative way to make the planet a better place.

Not content with just offering students a chance to "Rule the world" by becoming a CA, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario offered high school students a chance to "Save the world" by taking part in this unique CA philanthropy challenge. Young people were challenged to come up with revolutionary ideas that would help make the world a better place and the CAs are incenting them by offering both help and, more importantly, cash.

The Save the World prize is $10,000 for the winning two-person student team, with $5,000 going towards making the students' ideas reality and the extra $5,000 going towards anything the winners care to spend it on. The winning entry will be chosen by a team of expert CAs at an event at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario on Wednesday, April 22.

The Save the World finalists are:
- Alessandra Soda and Samantha Gopwani of Marguerite D'youville Secondary
School in Brampton

eliminating the improper storage of dangerous material in places

Save the World is an important part of the irreverent new Rule the World student recruitment ad campaign that points out achieving the CA designation can be a valuable first step on the road to personal career success and business conquests. The campaign, launched by the Institute, was developed by the leading ad agency Ogilvy and speaks to students in terms that would capture their attention and help dispel any stereotypes that might still exist regarding the CA profession. The campaign, launched in September 2008, will continue through 2009.
