Media Advisory: Ontario Technologies Triumph at Discovery '08

Best-selling authors Nassim Nicholas Taleb and Michael Raynor headline premier innovation event

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 12, 2008) - On Tuesday, May 13th the Ontario Centres of Excellence will host 1,500 of Ontario's top scientists, investors, business leaders and entrepreneurs to exchange ideas and showcase their inventions at Discovery '08, Canada's premier innovation and commercialization conference.

Discovery will give participants a first-hand chance to see cutting-edge Ontario technologies from the province's sharpest minds. The conference dares participants to shed traditional formulas for commercial success in favour of embracing randomness, risk and uncertainty - a theme mirrored through the event's world-renowned speakers.

Nassim Nicholas Taleb, Amazon.com's 2007 best-selling author of The Black Swan told Forbes magazine last year, "Random tinkering is the path to success. And fortunately, we are increasingly learning to practice it without knowing it - thanks to overconfident entrepreneurs, naive investors, greedy investment bankers, confused scientists and aggressive venture capitalists."

Joining Taleb will be Dr. Michael Raynor, author of The Strategy Paradox and Hon. John Wilkinson, Minister of Research and Innovation who will share his Innovation Agenda for Ontario and announce the first recipients of a new investment fund designed to help Ontario technology companies bring their products and services to market.
