Media Advisory/OPERATION REASSURANCE: Another Deployment of Troops From Valcartier to Europe

VALCARTIER, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Feb. 21, 2016) - Media representatives are invited to be present at the departure tomorrow of the second and last group of military members from Valcartier participating in the fifth rotation of Operation REASSURANCE in Central and Eastern Europe.

When: Monday, 22 February 2016, at 7:15 a.m. (welcome of media)
Where: Valcartier Base, main gate
What: Gathering of military members, with family and friends, before departure for Poland

The soldiers, who are being deployed for a six-month mission, come mainly from 1st Battalion, Royal 22e Régiment, led by 5 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group based in Valcartier. Operation REASSURANCE refers to the activities undertaken by the Canadian Armed Forces in support of NATO assurance measures, including military capabilities for training, exercises, demonstrations and assigned NATO tasks.

Canada is a strong NATO supporter and is committed to doing its part as a member of the Alliance. Canadian Armed Forces members have been in Central and Eastern Europe since May 2014 as part of Operation REASSURANCE.

Media representatives wishing to cover this departure are asked to notify the public affairs personnel of 5 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group as early as possible using the contact information indicated below. Interested journalists must present themselves on 22 February no later than 7:15 a.m. at the main gate of Valcartier Base, from which place they will be escorted to the location of the gathering.

After the gathering at Valcartier, the troops will proceed to Jean Lesage International Airport to take a flight bound for Poland. Note that there will be no media availability with the troops there.
