Media Advisory/Operation REASSURANCE: Troops from Valcartier Deploy to Europe

VALCARTIER, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Feb. 10, 2016) - Media representatives are invited to attend tomorrow's departure of the first group of CAF members from Valcartier as part of their contribution to the fifth rotation of Operation REASSURANCE in Central and Eastern Europe.

When: Thursday, February 11, 2016, at 7:15 a.m. (media event)
Where: CFB Valcartier, Main Gate
What: Gathering of CAF members, with friends and family, before their departure for Poland

Most of the troops deploying for a six-month mission are from 1 Battalion, Royal 22e Régiment, led by 5 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group based in Valcartier. Operation REASSURANCE refers to the activities undertaken by the Canadian Armed Forces in support of the reassurance measures implemented by NATO, including military capabilities relating to training, exercises, demonstrations and NATO assigned tasks.

Canada is a strong NATO supporter and is committed to doing its part as a member of the Alliance. Canadian Armed Forces members have been in Central and Eastern Europe since May 2014 as part of Operation REASSURANCE.

Media interested in covering this departure are asked to contact Public Affairs personnel at 5 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group as soon as possible using the following contact information. Interested journalists should come to the Main Gate of CFB Valcartier on February 11, no later than 7:15 a.m., after which they will be escorted to the assembly area.

After the gathering in Valcartier, the troops will proceed to Jean Lesage International Airport to take a flight bound for Poland. Note that there will be no media availability with the troops there.
