Media Advisory: Ottawa Soldiers Return Home After 10 Months in Afghanistan

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 24, 2009) - Media are invited to the MacDonald-Cartier International Airport for the arrival of Colonel Roch Lacroix, the outgoing Deputy Commander of Task Force Kandahar, and 12 other Canadian Forces members as they return from a 10-month deployment to Afghanistan.

Who: Col Lacroix, and 12 other CF members.

What: Return from a 10-month deployment in Afghanistan
with Task Force Kandahar Headquarters.

When: 25 November 2009, 1:47 p.m.

Where: MacDonald-Cartier International Airport,
arrivals area near the baggage carousel.

Participating media are asked to confirm their attendance with Army Public Affairs. Parking vouchers for the short term parking lot will be provided to all media who attend.

The media will be able to capture images of the soldiers' reunions with their families. Media are asked however not to interfere in the first few moments of their reunions. Immediately following the initial reunion, select soldiers and their families will available for interviews.

Task Force Kandahar is the formation conducting the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) mission in Kandahar Province under ISAF Regional Command (South). It comprises an Operational Mentor and Liaison Team, a Provincial Reconstruction Team and two manoeuvre units: the 1st Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry Battle Group, and the 1st Battalion of the 12th Infantry Regiment of the United States Army. The outgoing rotation of Task Force Kandahar Headquarters has overseen military operations, mentoring of Afghan National Security Forces, reconstruction and development in Kandahar Province from Feb-Nov 2009.
