Media Advisory: Outside of Private Clinic That May Have Over-Charged Millions, Doctors And Public Health Care Advocates Will Demand an End to Unlawful Billing

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - Sept. 29, 2014) -

Physicians and public health care advocates will hold a news conference outside the Cambie Surgery Centre today. The clinic and BC government are negotiating a resolution to a constitutional challenge to BC health care law sparked by patient complaints about over-billing at the clinics.

The negotiations to settle the case raise the question of whether the BC government will crack down on the clinics and require repayment to over-charged patients.

It's been two years since two Vancouver private clinics were given a deadline to end their unlawful billing practices, following an audit that revealed nearly $500,000 in overbilling. Clinics ignored this deadline and there has been no restitution to patients or taxpayers, no in depth audit, and no promise from the clinics to stop breaking the law.

What: News conference

When: Monday, September 29, 10:30 a.m.

Where: Outside Cambie Surgery Clinic, 2836 Ash Street, Vancouver, B.C.
