Media Advisory - Peter Shawn Taylor to speak on "National Day Care, Pay Care or No-Way Care?"

TORONTO, March 7 - Peter Shawn Taylor, contributing editor at
Canadian Business Magazine, will speak on Wednesday, March 9, at a Fraser
Institute event in Toronto, on "National Day Care, Pay Care, or No-Way Care?"
Polls show that Canadians are divided over whether a national childcare
program, first promised by the federal Liberals 12 years ago, is the best path
for Ottawa to pursue. Taylor will review the current 'patchwork' of provincial
daycare policies and assess Social Development Minister Ken Dryden's plans for
a national system of childcare. He will also examine the source and quality of
the existing research that argues in favour of an expansive, publicly-funded,
daycare system.
Taylor is a leading commentator in the national childcare debate. He
holds a Masters degree in Economics from the University of Alberta and has
worked in both politics and journalism. He was a founding member of the
National Post editorial board and worked there from 1998 to 2002.

Date: Wednesday, March 9, 2005
Time: 12:15 pm-1:30 pm
(Taylor will speak from 12:15 pm-1:00 pm, followed by
30 minutes of questions)
Location: Boardroom -- Fraser Institute Ontario Office
3rd Floor, 1491 Yonge Street
Toronto, Ontario
