Media Advisory/Photo Opportunity-PIPSC: Official Opening of Professional Institute's New National Office

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Dec. 12, 2006) - The Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada will celebrate the official opening of its new National Office on December 13, 2006.

Please join Michele Demers and distinguished guests including the Honourable John Baird, President of the Treasury Board, at the official opening of the new National Office.

DATE: Wednesday, December 13, 2006

TIME: 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. (presentations to begin at 5:45 p.m.)

LOCATION: PIPSC National Office
250 Tremblay Road, OTTAWA

PIPSC has grown tremendously over the last fifteen years, doubling its membership from 27,000 members in 1990 to over 50,000 in 2005. This resulted in an increased demand for services which meant additional employees to provide the services required and an increased demand for meeting space for members. Having outgrown its current facility at 53 Auriga Drive, the Professional Institute purchased the building at 250 Tremblay in 2004.

Following a complete renovation of the building, the Institute moved in on September 1, 2006 and occupies one third of the 125,000 square feet. The remaining space has been fully leased.

Just five minutes from Parliament Hill, the National Office is conveniently located next to the VIA train station. With highly-visible logos sitting atop the building, the PIPSC National Office is rapidly becoming an Ottawa landmark.

The Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada is a national union representing 50,000 professionals and scientists across Canada.
