Media Advisory: PHS Public Lecture Series Presents Dr. Peter Ferentzy

Ending drug prohibition and emancipating the addict-The last frontier in a struggle for enlightenment

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Jan. 21, 2012) - Dr. Peter Ferentzy, an addiction expert, author, and recovering crack addict, reveals the ugly truth: the dominant approach to drug and alcohol addictions in North America hurts more people than it helps.

WHO: Dr. Peter Ferentzy, Ph.D (peterferentzy.com)

WHAT: A lecture on the failure of addiction treatment in North America and what can be done about it

WHERE: SFU Harbour Centre, 515 West Hastings Street, Fletcher Challenge Theater (room 1900)

WHEN: Sunday January 22 at 6:30pm

The PHS Speakers Series invites international experts involved in addictions and mental health issues to Vancouver to present their thoughts and research. Sunday's speaker, Peter Ferentzy, holds a Ph.D. in Social and Political Thought from York University, where he studied the origins of the modern concept of addiction. His research emphasized the connections between perceptions of the addict ideas about mental illness. His intimate knowledge of this subject extends from the gutter to the ivory towers of academia.

Peter is the author of Dealing with Addiction: Why the 20th Century was Wrong, which he wrote after watching two close friends die of overdoses. He says he was compelled to write the book because he was "sick of seeing people suffer needlessly, and die needlessly."

Peter can be available for interviews Monday 1PM to 2PM and Tuesday morning 9AM to 11AM.
