Media Advisory: PIPSC President To Meet with New Brunswick Finance Minister To Discuss the Future of Public Service Pensions

FREDERICTON, NEW BRUNSWICK--(Marketwired - Oct. 31, 2013) - Gary Corbett, President of the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada, will meet this morning with New Brunswick's Finance Minister, the Honourable Blaine Higgs, to voice the Institute's concerns over the provincial government's plans to introduce substantial changes to public service pensions.

The Institute does not support the government's proposed repeal of the Public Service Superannuation Act (PSSA) and the replacement of the current plan with a Shared Risk Plan. Such a decision would have serious negative consequences for the retirement security of past, present and future public service employees in New Brunswick and other jurisdictions.

Event: PIPSC President meets with provincial Minister of Finance the Hon. Blaine Higgs
Location: Chancery Place - 675 King Street, Fredericton - Lobby
Date: Thursday, October 31, 2013
Time: Mr. Corbett will be available to speak to the media starting at 12.00 p.m.

The Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada represents some 60,000 professionals and scientists across Canada's public sector, including more than 400 provincial employees who proudly serve the citizens of New Brunswick as Crown Prosecutors, Crown Attorneys, Engineers, Land Surveyors, Architects, Veterinarians, Agrologists and Agronomists.
