Media Advisory: PIPSC President Visiting Newfoundland and Labrador May 29-June 1

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - May 26, 2006) - Michele Demers, head of the 50,000-member Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada, will be in Newfoundland and Labrador from May 29 to June 1 to meet with members and visit their work sites.

The Professional Institute is the largest multi-profession union in Canada with a membership of 50,000. PIPSC represents scientists and professionals across the country including over 300 in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Ms. Demers will be available for interviews in Corner Brook on May 29, in Gander on May 30 and in St. John's on June 1. She will be available to comment on whistleblower protection and the government's Accountability Act, the re-opening of the Gander Weather Office and the bargaining status of the Computer Systems Group. 12,000 computer specialists will be in a legal strike position seven days after the conciliation board reports if the hearings before the conciliation board fail to reach an agreement this week.
