Media Advisory: PPCLI Memorial Baton Arrives in Port Credit, Ont.


PORT CREDIT, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Sept. 5, 2014) - Media are invited to attend various ceremonies and activities to honour the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI) in Port Credit on Sunday, 7 September.

Memorial Baton Relay

When: Start on Sunday, September 7, 11:30 a.m.

Where: Trinity Anglican Church, 26 Stavebank Road North, Mississauga, Ont

What: The PPCLI Memorial Baton will be carried to the Lakeview Small Arms Training Facility. A short ceremony will take place along the run route at

Centennial Display

When: Sunday, September 7 from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Where: Lakeview Small Arms Training Facility, 1352 Lakeshore Road East, Mississauga

What: The PPCLI Centennial Display will be open to the public until approximately 5:30 p.m. The displays highlight a century of service to Canada by showcasing military vehicles, weapons, equipment and uniforms worn by PPCLI soldiers from 1914 to modern day. A mobile museum will feature Regimental artifacts.

The PPCLI Memorial Baton Relay (MBR) is a team of soldiers running with a baton containing the names of 1,866 PPCLI members who have fallen in active service to Canada. The MBR team is running the symbolic route taken by the Originals as they marshaled for service in 1914 on the eve of the First World War. The Memorial Baton departed Edmonton on August 10, 2014, and is being relayed to Ottawa where it will arrive on September 18, 2014.
