Media Advisory: Presentation Ceremony to Outstanding Canadians to Launch Veterans' Week 2006

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Nov. 3, 2006) - The Honourable Noel Kinsella, Speaker of the Senate, the Honourable Peter Milliken, Speaker of the House of Commons and the Honourable Greg Thompson, Minister of Veterans Affairs, will launch Veterans' Week with a special ceremony in the Senate Chamber on Monday, November 6, 2006.

The theme of Veterans' Week, which runs from November 5th to Remembrance Day on November 11th, is "Share the Story." In keeping with this theme, three Veterans will share stories of their experiences during the Second World War, Korean War and a Peacekeeping mission. Dignitaries will also place wreaths to commemorate those who have died in the service of Canada.

During the ceremony, five outstanding Canadians will be presented with the Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation:

Devin Castilloux (Oakville, Ontario)
John Gooch (Kanata, Ontario)
George Nash CD (Glace Bay, Nova Scotia)
Douglas Sample (St. Laurent, Quebec)
Blake Seward (Smiths Falls, Ontario)

The Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation recognizes individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the care and well-being of Veterans or who have been instrumental in raising awareness of Veterans' contributions, sacrifices and achievements.
