Media Advisory: Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry Freedom of the City and Parade of Rededication

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Sept. 19, 2014) - Media are invited to attend two ceremonies to celebrate a century of service by Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI) at City Hall and the National War Memorial on Saturday, September 20.

Freedom of the City

When: Saturday, September 20, 11 a.m. Media are asked to be in place by 10:45.

Where: Ottawa City Hall, 110 Laurier Ave. W

What: Soldiers of 3rd Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, will exercise their Freedom of the City in recognition of the 100th anniversary of the Regiment. The Right Honorable Adrienne Clarkson, Colonel-in-Chief of the Regiment, and Lieutenant-General (Ret'd) Ray Crabbe, Colonel of the Regiment, will witness, as Mayor Jim Watson grants permission for the formation to march through the streets with "drums beating, bayonets fixed and colours flying."

Parade of Rededication

When: Saturday, September 20, 12:30 p.m. Media are asked to be in place by 12:15.

Where: National War Memorial, Elgin St.

What: Minister of National Defence, the Honorable Rob Nicholson, the Right Honorable Adrienne Clarkson and LGen (Ret'd) Ray Crabbe will witness as the Regiment dedicates itself to another 100 years of service to Canada. Members of the Old Guard, Patricia's who have retired from service, will join the parade for the march past at the end of the parade.

The parade will be joined by the Pipes and Drums of the Edmonton Police Services and la Musique du Royal 22e Régiment, who are also celebrating their centennial year.
