Media Advisory: Quality patient care focus of regional registered practical nurses (RPNs) conference Monday in Ottawa

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - April 7, 2011) - Area Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs) will be joined by RPNs from Kingston, Brockville, Smiths Falls, Cornwall, Alexandria, Hawkesbury, Arnprior, Renfrew, Pembroke, Almonte and Carleton Place, on Monday (April 11, 2011) at a regional conference focused on quality patient care, RPN skill utilization and sharing best practices.

Increasingly, RPNs are vital members of the health care team in both hospital and long-term care facilities. There are over 28,800 registered practical nurses (RPNs) working in a variety of health care settings in Ontario. The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) represents 37.4 per cent – about 10,000 – of the RPN workforce in Ontario.

The CUPE Eastern Ontario Regional RPN Conference is being held at the Jim Robillard Union Centre, 1505 Carling Avenue, Ottawa, and begins at 10 a.m.
