Media Advisory: Quality Patient Care Focus of Regional Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs) Conference Tomorrow in Northwestern Ontario

DRYDEN, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 2, 2011) - Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs) from northwestern Ontario will be in Dryden tomorrow (May 3, 2011) participating in a regional nursing conference focused on quality patient care, RPN skill utilization and sharing best practices. Conference participants include RPNs from Dryden, Fort Frances, Sioux Lookout, Red Lake and Kenora.

Increasingly, RPNs are vital members of the health care team in both hospital and long-term care facilities. There are over 28,800 registered practical nurses (RPNs) working in a variety of health care settings in Ontario. The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) represents 37.4 per cent – over 10,000 – of the RPN workforce in Ontario. Thousands of these RPNs are affiliated to CUPE's hospital division, the Ontario Council of Hospital Unions (OCHU).

The CUPE/OCHU northwestern Ontario RPN conference is being held at the Best Western, 349 Government Street, Dryden, and begins at 10 a.m.
