Media Advisory: Rare glimpse into the life of a gunner

VALCARTIER, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Nov. 22, 2016) - Members of the media are invited for a close-up look at the work of Valcartier gunners during an exercise on November 25, 2016. This glimpse into the work life of members of the 5e Régiment d'artillerie légère du Canada will be an opportunity for reporters to learn more about the practitioners of this military skill that "resounds" in the Quebec City area.

When: Friday, November 25, 2016, from 8:00 am (greeting) to 11:30 am. Reporters will see artillery pieces being fired and have an opportunity to meet with the personnel of the Regiment
Special offer: Reporters that would like to participate in a more complete experience can be taken along on the field exercise as embedded journalists from 4:00 pm (greeting) on Thursday, November 24, 2016, until 9:00 am the next morning. As embedded journalists, they will be allowed to accompany an artillery battery and will have a unique close-up look at the action (orders given and procedures followed) and the interaction between troop members during a simulated battle
Where: Greeting area at the Main Gate of the Valcartier Base. The manoeuvres will then be conducted in the training areas

The time of arrival on November 25 is 8:00 am, but upon request, journalists can arrive much earlier to follow the more early morning activities of the training.

For the special offer of embedded journalism, media representatives will have an opportunity to cover the action throughout the night until the morning of November 25, but they may terminate their participation at any time if an agreement to that effect is made prior to their arrival. It should be noted that the nighttime manoeuvres will be conducted in darkness. A special effort will be made to provide reporters with information on the activities in progress, and individual interviews with the soldiers may be arranged.

Regardless of the format chosen, interested media representatives are encouraged to contact the Public Affairs Officer as soon as possible to agree on a personalized coverage schedule.
