From Monday, May 26 to Thursday, May 29, the Government of Canada hosts the 38th Annual Meeting of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Caribbean Heads of Government, Ministers of Finance and Development, Governors of Central Banks, as well as representatives from international organizations and Canadian financial institutions will attend the meeting.

The Honourable Maxime Bernier, Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Bank's Governor for Canada, will chair the Board of Governors meeting, May 28-29. The Honourable Beverley J. Oda, Minister of International Cooperation and the Premier of Nova Scotia, the Honourable Rodney MacDonald will join Minister Bernier in officially opening the meeting. Secretary of State Helena Guergis will also be attending and will play a prominent role in the Bank's meeting, as well as other events.

The Government of Canada will sponsor additional key events before and after the Bank's official meeting. Sponsored by the Canadian International Development Agency, the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, these events will showcase our longstanding relationship and encourage future collaboration between Canada and the Caribbean.

Media Accreditation

Accreditation is open to representatives of bone fide news gathering organizations and freelance media representatives on assignment for a recognized news organization. All media representatives seeking accreditation must complete a Media Application for Accreditation form and send it to the address indicated below before May 22, 2008. Courier is recommended. Late applications may result in delay or denial of accreditation to the Caribbean Development Bank Board of Governors Meeting. Only those persons whose applications are refused will be notified. The Application for Accreditation form is available at the following Web site: www.cdb-bdc2008.ca under Media.

Credentials will be distributed, upon presentation of appropriate identification, as of May 26 at 9:00 from the Media Centre located in the Harbour Suite, Main Floor, Westin Nova Scotian Hotel.

Media Accommodation

Media representatives are responsible for their own accommodation arrangements. There are no accommodations available at the Westin Nova Scotian.

Ground Transportation

Media may access delegate shuttle buses running regularly between the Westin Nova Scotian Hotel (Media Centre) and the World Trade and Convention Centre. Accreditation badges must be worn.

Media Program

A detailed media program including Government of Canada events will be available on the website and at the Host Secretariat Media Centre at 9:00 a.m. on May 26, 2008. Currently, four events are open for accredited media and will be webcast.

Tuesday, May 27, 2008 - 19:30 - William B. Demas Memorial Lecture

Featured Lecturer - Dr. Marshall Hall

The memorial lecture honours the contribution of William B. Demas who served as President of the Caribbean Development Bank between 1974 and 1988. This year's guest speaker, Dr. Marshall Hall will share his socio-economic vision for the Caribbean. Dr. Hall is a distinguished academic and business leader, former Head of the Jamaica Producers Group and still sits on their Board of Directors.

Wednesday, May 28, 2008 - 09:00 - Opening Ceremony

The ceremony, featuring a children's choir from the Halifax area, will lead into the opening addresses by Governors of the Bank representing each Caribbean nation.

Thursday, May 29, 2008 -11:45 - Closing Ceremony

The formal meeting of the Caribbean Development Bank Board of Governors will end in a closing ceremony that features the donation of computers by the Caribbean Development Bank to a children's charity.

Thursday, May 29, 2008 - 13:00 - News Conference

Immediately following the closing ceremony, a news conference will take place at the World Trade and Convention Centre. Open to accredited media only.

Media Centre

The Media Centre will be located in the Westin Nova Scotian Hotel, 1181 Hollis Street, Halifax, Nova Scotia in the Harbour Suite (Main Floor). It opens at 9:00 a.m. on May 26 and will provide workspaces, telephones, and internet connections. It will close at 11:59 p.m. on May 29. It is available to all accredited media.
