Media Advisory/REMINDER: CLC National Convention in Vancouver May 9-13, 2011

Theme: 'Good Jobs. Better Lives. Unions make a difference.'


OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 5, 2011) - About 2,000 trade unionists will gather at the Vancouver Convention Centre between May 9 and 13 for the 26th constitutional convention of the Canadian Labour Congress. The convention occurs every three years and the 2011 theme is "Good Jobs. Better Lives. Unions make a difference."

Delegate registration begins at 12 Noon on Sunday, May 8. Opening ceremonies occur at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 9 and include greetings from Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson. CLC President Ken Georgetti will address the convention at 11:00 a.m. on May 9.

Delegates will debate resolutions regarding an agenda for good jobs in a new economy and also about the provision of quality public services. There will be panels on political action and on how progressive organizations can best use social media. Special guests include Sharan Burrow, general secretary of the International trade Union Confederation and Charles Ferguson, Academy Award winning director of the documentary Inside Job, which has been described as the definitive screen investigation of the recent global economic crisis.
