Media Advisory-Reminder Notice: Environment Ministers to Meet in Halifax

WINNIPEG, MANITOBA--(CCNMatthews - June 24, 2005) - The Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment (CCME) will meet in Halifax on June 27 to discuss a renewed commitment to environmental sustainability that will improve the way they work together, and improve Canada's long-term economic competitiveness.

The Council - made up of environment ministers from each of the provinces, territories and the Government of Canada - will also discuss a draft Canada-wide standard for reducing mercury emissions from coal-fired electric power generating stations.

The current president of CCME, the Hon. Kerry Morash, Nova Scotia's Minister of Environment and Labour, will chair the meeting, which will be held at the Westin Nova Scotian Hotel (1181 Hollis Street, Halifax).

At the close of the meeting on June 27, a communique will be issued and a news conference will be held at 3:30 pm (Atlantic time, time to be confirmed) in the Commonwealth A room of the Westin Hotel.
